Weeding Technician

Entry Level | $18–$22/hour

The entry point into our Fine Gardening Apprenticeship Program. No professional gardening experience is required.

A good fit for someone who enjoys physical outdoor work, pays attention to detail, and wants to develop real gardening and horticultural skills.

 

Gardener

Gardening Experience | $20–$25/hour

For someone with a foundation in gardening or horticulture who wants to continue developing their plant knowledge, practical skills, and professional fine-gardening experience.

 

Experienced Fine Gardener

Professional Experience | $25–$30/hour

For an experienced gardening or horticulture professional with strong plant knowledge, pruning skills, and the judgment to care for established residential gardens with a high degree of independence.

Our Work

Tidy Gardens specializes in the detailed care of established residential gardens.

Depending on your experience and position, your work may include:

Fine Gardening Apprenticeship

Every gardener who joins Tidy Gardens participates in our Fine Gardening Apprenticeship Program.


The program meets employees at their existing level of experience. For someone new to professional gardening, that may begin with foundational skills like weeding, plant identification, and detailed garden maintenance. For an experienced gardener, the focus may be on learning Tidy Gardens’ properties, systems, ecological practices, quality standards, and approach to fine garden care.
As skills and knowledge are demonstrated, employees take on increasingly advanced work and responsibility.


Progression is based on demonstrated skill, quality, reliability, horticultural knowledge, and readiness for additional responsibility — not simply time in the position.

Weeding Technician

Seasonal | $18–$22/hour | Full-time & Part-time Available

This is the entry point into Tidy Gardens’ Fine Gardening Apprenticeship Program. Professional gardening experience is not required.

The position focuses primarily on hand weeding and detailed garden-bed maintenance while developing the foundational skills needed for professional fine gardening.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Hand-pull weeds throughout garden beds
  • Learn to distinguish weeds from desirable plants
  • Maintain garden-bed edges and hardscape areas
  • Perform basic deadheading and plant cleanup
  • Remove garden debris and leave properties clean and finished
  • Follow property-specific maintenance notes
  • Learn ornamental plant identification and seasonal garden care
  • Develop efficient, thorough professional work habits

As foundational skills become consistent, training can expand into pruning, perennial care, containers, planting, plant health, and other fine-gardening work.

Gardener

Seasonal | $20–$25/hour | Full-time & Part-time Available

The Gardener position is for someone who already has a foundation in gardening or horticulture and is ready to develop broader horticultural skills, plant knowledge, and independent judgment.

Candidates may progress into this position from our Weeding Technician role or enter at this level with previous gardening or horticultural experience.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Detailed hand weeding and garden maintenance
  • Deadheading annuals, perennials, roses, and flowering shrubs
  • Pruning ornamental shrubs and small trees
  • Seasonal perennial and shrub care
  • Annual container maintenance
  • Ornamental and vegetable garden care
  • Plant and weed identification
  • Monitoring plants for pests, disease, watering issues, and environmental stress
  • Recognizing and prioritizing garden needs

Relevant experience may come from professional gardening, horticulture, nurseries, garden centers, public gardens, agriculture or horticulture programs, estate gardening, or significant hands-on gardening experience.

You do not need to arrive knowing everything.

 

Experienced Fine Gardener

Seasonal | $25–$30/hour | Full-time & Part-time Available

This position is for an established gardening or horticulture professional who already possesses the practical skills and judgment required to care for residential gardens with a high degree of independence.

We’re looking for someone who can recognize what an established garden needs, prioritize the work, make sound routine horticultural decisions, and carry that work through to a polished result.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Fine pruning of ornamental shrubs and small trees
  • Detailed garden maintenance and hand weeding
  • Skilled deadheading and perennial care
  • Annual container maintenance
  • Ornamental and vegetable garden care
  • Plant-health monitoring
  • Ecological plant-care treatments
  • Plant and weed identification
  • Seasonal garden maintenance
  • Independent assessment and prioritization of garden needs
  • Communication of plant-health and property concerns

We’re Looking For

  • Multiple seasons of professional gardening, horticulture, estate gardening, or comparable experience
  • Strong ornamental plant and weed identification
  • Fine-pruning knowledge and proper pruning technique
  • Experience with perennials, shrubs, ornamental trees, annuals, and containers
  • Understanding of seasonal garden maintenance
  • Ability to recognize common plant-health concerns
  • Strong independent work habits
  • Excellent attention to detail

Experience maintaining fine or high-end residential gardens is strongly preferred.

 

Schedule & Requirements

Positions are seasonal from spring through fall, with full-time and part-time opportunities available.

Applicants must have:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Reliable weekday availability
  • Ability to travel between properties
  • Ability to perform sustained physical outdoor work
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and work at ground level
  • Ability to safely lift the weight required for their position
  • Comfort working outdoors in typical seasonal weather
